Back in March our friend Dave told us about Mondo Ray from Munich, Germany playing some shows in the area. MYB was lucky enough to catch them at T.T. the Bear’s Place with the great Cradle to the Grave opening with up their heartfelt energetic rock/punk/post (whatever, its fucking good) anthems. Mondo Ray ripped through a great set of garage-pop songs that were akin to our local favorite duo Radio Control. We are certainly looking forward to their next visit and hope to see you there as well.

This month we are celebrating our 1 year anniversary with a special night over at the Middlesex Lounge.

This means MYB will be putting up more videos and annoying the hell out of you until May 23rd.

Red & GoldCaught A Train

At the end of last summer MYB took a trip to Cape Porpoise, ME for a special performance by Mike O’Hehir of the emerging Maine band Old Soul. This time around we pulled a 180 from the gorgeous pier location and met up with Mike in some basement in Allston. We were also pleased to witness the songs played with a full band including horns and backing vocals. Look for Old Soul to make more moves outside of the Maine area this year on the strength of their outstanding self-titled debut. Enjoy, and thanks to the people who had the basement.

Soft RainPremonition

We haven’t posted anything in quite a while so we would like to return with something top-notch. MYB went to the release party for the new “Valencia” 7-inch single by André Obin out on Vanya Records. The entire evening was an abundantly enjoyable experience in one of the closing nights of the Together Festival. We bring you two videos that are driven by the outstanding live energy that André Obin brings to every show. Enjoy, and make sure you grab the Valencia 7-inch.

Natural – Bump That w/ Brook and Real PDutch ReBelle w/ Famous Nobodies – Stop It

Last Thursday (2/9) MYB went to the release party for “Last Days” by J the S, where we were able to capture a performance of “Bump That”, a new track by Natural featuring Brook and Real P of the Famous Nobodies. The energy in the room was off the charts throughout the evening. High spirits and tight performances by some of Boston’s finest MCs made it one of the finest hip-hop shows in recent memory. While Natural kicked off the show with an impressive solo set, his #BarGang collaborators Brook and Real P returned to the stage later in the evening with Famous Nobodies, the notorious collective that has been igniting stages all over Boston recently. The Famous Nobodies put on a live show that is fun while not letting up on any intensity, an example is “Stop It” by FN’s Dutch ReBelle joined by her crew for one of the most memorable performances of the night. Part IPart II

New Year’s Day (a.k.a. National Hangover Day) is normally a very quiet day and night for anything happening in and around Boston, banks are closed and bars are still cleaning up from the New Year’s Eve crowd. This New Year’s Day, MYB was tipped off to a special performance by the Fedavees at ZuZu in Cambridge. Their songs were slick, and played with tight execution but also held a feeling of relaxed groove throughout. What made this performance especially interesting was that the Fedavees also paid tribute to the notorious Beat Awfuls for the second half of their set. Beat Awfuls is somewhat of a local legend around Boston, from what MYB has come to know, it is a project started by Viva Viva vocalist Dave Cave and played with various talents from around the area. The complete anthology of songs by Beat Awfuls entitled “People’s Champ” was recently made available over at davecave.bandcamp.com and look for an upcoming new 7″ from Fedavees this spring through pRIMORDIAL sOUNDS. Thanks to the brothers Allen, Fedavees, Dave Cave and everyone over at ZuZu.

Break MeBefore Dawn

A few weeks ago MYB took a field trip to everyone’s favorite trashy college area, Allston. On January 11th we witnessed Cradle to the Grave for the first time at O’Brien’s, which has always been a favorite destination for folks looking for a dirtier kind of rock. CTTG tore through an energetic set of anthemic punk rock that was impressively executed by each member with catchy lyrics and a (fucking!) fiddler. This is one of those bands you can easily enjoy at a show without being familiar with any tunes prior to the occasion. Allston was a perfect setting to see this band but make sure you catch them at any location they hit this year, we promise you’ll have a good time. Thanks to Cradle to the Dave and everyone at O’Brien’s.

It’s always refreshing to see a new enthusiastic young band with exceptional talent. The rock trio Today Junior invited MYB to their first show off of the Allston basement circuit at Church last Wednesday. They brought an exciting presence to the stage which was equally matched by their musicianship and songwriting talents. The guitar and bass weave throughout the incredibly active beats laid down by drummer Mike O’Toole. The songs remain catchy with pop vocals, sometimes spawning raw instrumental bliss. We can only hope that their upcoming recording sessions capture the spirit of their live performance.
