Natural – Bump That w/ Brook and Real PDutch ReBelle w/ Famous Nobodies – Stop It

Last Thursday (2/9) MYB went to the release party for “Last Days” by J the S, where we were able to capture a performance of “Bump That”, a new track by Natural featuring Brook and Real P of the Famous Nobodies. The energy in the room was off the charts throughout the evening. High spirits and tight performances by some of Boston’s finest MCs made it one of the finest hip-hop shows in recent memory. While Natural kicked off the show with an impressive solo set, his #BarGang collaborators Brook and Real P returned to the stage later in the evening with Famous Nobodies, the notorious collective that has been igniting stages all over Boston recently. The Famous Nobodies put on a live show that is fun while not letting up on any intensity, an example is “Stop It” by FN’s Dutch ReBelle joined by her crew for one of the most memorable performances of the night. Part IPart II

New Year’s Day (a.k.a. National Hangover Day) is normally a very quiet day and night for anything happening in and around Boston, banks are closed and bars are still cleaning up from the New Year’s Eve crowd. This New Year’s Day, MYB was tipped off to a special performance by the Fedavees at ZuZu in Cambridge. Their songs were slick, and played with tight execution but also held a feeling of relaxed groove throughout. What made this performance especially interesting was that the Fedavees also paid tribute to the notorious Beat Awfuls for the second half of their set. Beat Awfuls is somewhat of a local legend around Boston, from what MYB has come to know, it is a project started by Viva Viva vocalist Dave Cave and played with various talents from around the area. The complete anthology of songs by Beat Awfuls entitled “People’s Champ” was recently made available over at davecave.bandcamp.com and look for an upcoming new 7″ from Fedavees this spring through pRIMORDIAL sOUNDS. Break MeBefore Dawn

A few weeks ago MYB took a field trip to everyone’s favorite trashy college area, Allston. On January 11th we witnessed Cradle to the Grave for the first time at O’Brien’s, which has always been a favorite destination for folks looking for a dirtier kind of rock. CTTG tore through an energetic set of anthemic punk rock that was impressively executed by each member with catchy lyrics and a (fucking!) fiddler. This is one of those bands you can easily enjoy at a show without being familiar with any tunes prior to the occasion. Allston was a perfect setting to see this band but make sure you catch them at any location they hit this year, we promise you’ll have a good time. It’s always refreshing to see a new enthusiastic young band with exceptional talent. The rock trio Today Junior invited MYB to their first show off of the Allston basement circuit at Church last Wednesday. They brought an exciting presence to the stage which was equally matched by their musicianship and songwriting talents. The guitar and bass weave throughout the incredibly active beats laid down by drummer Mike O’Toole. The songs remain catchy with pop vocals, sometimes spawning raw instrumental bliss. We can only hope that their upcoming recording sessions capture the spirit of their live performance. If the story of your life contains a giant gaping wound where seeing Bodega Girls would otherwise be, think Fugazi meeting Marvin Gaye at the Squire on Amateur Night. MYB has been to countless shows by these hedonistic dance-rock misfits and we featured their filthy cousins Bodega Sluts who play covers of your older brother’s favorite punk classics. This video has been in-the-works pretty much since we started MYB and we are delighted to bring a new song that is not only aurally epic (that’s what she said) but also a visual stunner. This performance took place the night before Thanksgiving during their monthly evening dubbed “Cool Ranch” at Middlesex Lounge, the crowd was already amped from a killer set by DJ LeahV and the band was at the top of their filthy game. It is particularly nice to see the Bodega Girls backed by a live drummer who is new to the group, Steven Lord brings the kind of energy that fits perfectly within this already notorious party machine.

We proudly bring you two acts from the best new venue in the Boston area, Radio. Amoroso brings you heavy instrumental music that was surprise to hear from the pleasant and well-spoken guitarist George, who was sidelined for a few months when we first met him due to an unfortunate Car vs. Bike altercation. Amoroso pumped tons of energy and agggression into the crowd to ready them for Viva Viva, always a favorite of ours here at MYB, made especially fun with the return of Fumika and DaveCave from parts unknown. This video was taken just a few days before Viva Viva took home the Boston Music Award for “Best Rock Artist” which we wholeheartedly congratulate them for!

We try to maintain our focus on local talent. But when an act like The Chariot comes around, who collectively bring some of the most authentic and terrifying energy we have ever seen, it’s impossible not to make a field trip north. Their energy is made all the more impressive by the consistency of their message and approachable demeanor. How can you not respect a bunch of wholesome guys who become monsters when they hit the stage? Thanks especially to David, whom MYB met in Baltimore.

Battling an impending cold or possibly pneumonia, Mr. Obin delivered a set that is the perfect example of why we started this website.
